In Japanese, the word "Kimono" (ki-mono) translates to “wear” (ki) + “thing” (mono). To Carmen, a Ki-mono is also a canvas.
The prints on the Kimono in this series are the result of years of exploring the world and its textures with a camera. East and West, North and South, Carmen has walked and photographed. Each place has contributed with its life and texture to the creation of this work.
As a photographer, Carmen enjoys watching and capturing textures that call to her. Those photographs become the brush to create the prints she transposes onto the silk. It's a process of seeing, deconstructing and expressing.
